Blogging for students

I read that teenagers in some public schools were instructed to blog in order to set up an online presence.  I see that this makes sense as so many things we do nowadays are online and an online identity may be important.
I am also interested in getting my students to journal.  I feel that journaling is important for many reasons: it gives an outlet to vent, follow through on ideas, visualize goals, induce creative thinking, improve writing skills and develop communication skills.
An online journal gives these benefits as well as adding computer and keyboarding proficiency.
When searching for a child friendly blogging arena, I discovered Kidblog.org.
Kidblog.org allows a monitor to set up a site and allow users.  The monitor can also control how much if any of the students information goes out into the "public" world.
If you are using a blog for your students, I would love to hear about it.  Please leave a comment.
