If you watch the news then chances are your kids are catching some of the headlines too. I had given up on the news for a while as it tended to be theatrical to me... with shocking and misleading statements and thoughts.
One major topic of national news of late is ISIS. Pictures of bombed sites and ransom photos showing knives held to the heads of victims by hooded captors is scary to many adults. Children don't understand that these events are happening 1000's of miles away.
Teens are being recruited by social media, fleeing their families and homelands to join the group... for reasons unknown.
Even though my children are young: 9 and 11. I wanted to make sure they were not lured in and coaxed away to aide ISIS, as they are big social media consumers.
I found a great explanation of ISIS, made for kids, just graphic enough to show the dangers without causing nightmares. I would have to say, the video even taught me a little ISIS history I was unaware of.
