The school year is about to draw to a close. Again as a home educator I wonder if I taught my children enough, if they are getting the proper curriculum for this decade and how long I can continue to educate them with my dated knowledge and scope of learning (even though I have a bachelor's degree.
With those thoughts and doubts in my mind along with so many others...I searched for options to assist me in teaching my home educated children. Not ready to go back to a brick and mortar school, I looked into online schools and hope to have found my solution in Connections academy. Connections academy is a free, accredited online school available in about 25-30 state in the US as well as some abroad options.
The sign-up process is going fairly well, with minimal required documents and ready made forms for home educators to fill out regarding past studies, when traditional report cards are not available.
As a home educator, unsure of where my children fall academically, pretests are available. Both my children will take a language arts and math pretest..done online, not by a testing center, THANK YOU. My kids have already taken the language arts test, which was pretty painless. We are waiting on the math till we get just a few more skills in for the year.
Connections academy will provide my students, textbooks, art materials and even a computer to assist with tech programs needed to perform live chats with teachers and other students. Lower income families can even receive a internet stipend while students are actively enrolled.
The school has provided many Q&A events online, in person and at trade shows to assist with questions and concerns, though I found their handbook to be very insightful.
Though my kids are a little apprehensive of having to spend the whole day doing school again... I am excited to know they will be getting an accredited education while still safe at home.
